Citizen Science in Practice: Monitoring Water Quality, Engaging People, Learning Together
The DIGITWATER project aims to strengthen higher education and research in water resources engineering by integrating advanced digital technologies into teaching, learning, and collaboration. The project focuses on creating sustainable, interdisciplinary, and impact-driven educational experiences that support innovation and capacity building in water management. To this end, we are launching a webinar series on the topics of interest of our project.
For the first one, we're thrilled to have with us...
Dr Lien De Trift
Dr. Lien De Trift is a PhD researcher in the Department of Water and Climate at Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Her research assesses the impacts of nature-based solutions on water quality through hydrological and water quality modelling using SWAT+gwflow. Alongside the modelling work, she explores the potential of citizen science for water quality monitoring, including the evaluation of monitoring protocols, measurement methods, and data quality. She has a particular interest in school-based citizen science, investigating how students can contribute to reliable water quality monitoring while developing a better understanding of their local water environment.
